After topple the iPhone, Android is expected soon topple the BlackBerry due to differences in the Android market share to the BlackBerry only one percentage point in the second quarter 2010. A recent report reveals research firm Gartner Inc., the global smartphone sales volume in the second quarter (April to June) in 2010 increased by 50.5 percent per year, to 61.6 million units.

Gartner assess, smartphone growth spurt is not surprising. However, the competition in the global smartphone market has changed totally. Gartner asserted, the first in the history, production Android operating system Google Inc. predicate operating system capable of reaching the third largest in the world.

Because, in the second quarter 2010 sales volume Android smartphone operating collection system has exceeded the production of Apple Inc. iPhone. Because evicted Android, the position of iPhone OS (IOS), which is used in the iPhone operating system, is now down to number four.

"The global smartphone operating system market, Android to grow very rapidly so that stepping IOS," said Gartner Inc. research vice president Carolina Milanesi.

Based on data from Gartner, the global Android smartphone sales volume in the second quarter 2010 reached 10.6 million units. On same period, global sales volume of iPhone only reached 8.7 million units. Not surprisingly, the global market share had soared to beat Android IOS.

In a presentation to Gartner, the share of Android in the smartphone operating system market globally in the second quarter of 2010 increased significantly to 17.2 percent, from 1.8 percent in the second quarter of 2009. Meanwhile, market share increased by only a thin IOS to 14.2 percent, from 13.0 percent. Thanks to a very high growth, any Android smartphone is expected soon to beat the BlackBerry, the production of Research In Motion (RIM) Ltd., which occupies the second largest position in the global smartphone market.

In these markets, the share of BlackBerry continues to weaken, thus the difference with Android becomes increasingly thin. Gartner reveals, in the second quarter 2010 global market share fell to 18.2 percent of the BlackBerry, from 19.0 percent in second quarter 2009. As a result, the difference in the Android market share to the BlackBerry was only just over one percentage point. If Android is growing rapidly and BlackBerry continues to weaken, then Android is estimated to be able to subvert the BlackBerry in the third quarter (July-September) in 2010.

Conscious of its position is weakening, RIM also seeks to rise, and RIM’s latest flagship weapon in the global smartphone market is a BlackBerry Torch. Nevertheless, Gartner does not believe the BlackBerry Torch will provide significant assistance to the RIM, to stem the assault Android.

"Torch's BlackBerry users will be able to prevent the BlackBerry smartphone to move to another. Still, BlackBerry Torch will not be able to make any iPhone or Android users switch to BlackBerry," said Milanesi.

Research firm NPD Group research firm Gartner Inc., agrees with. NPD rate, Torch BlackBerry smartphone will not be able to compete with top-class smartphone for BlackBerry Android Torch does not have the technical specifications as high as its competitors.

"The most obvious example, the Black-Berry Torch is not equipped with touch screen for touch-screen Android smartphones like Motorola Inc. production Droid, or any EVO 4G Droid Incredible production and HTC Corp.," said Executive Director of Industry Analysis Ross Rubin, NPD Group Inc.

Just for the record, the BlackBerry Torch equipped sized 3.2-inch touch screen. Meanwhile, Motorola Droid features 3.7-inch touch screen, 3.7 inches HTC Incredible Droid, and HTC EVO 4G even 4.3 inches.

Compared to the iPhone, touch screen BlackBerry Torch also smaller because Apple equip the iPhone with 3.5-inch touch screen. Separately, research firm International Data Corp. IDC reveals, the main drivers of this growth is the Android smartphone operating systematically.
